Royal Highland Show

As the summer holidays approached, it was high time Stirling Orchestra embraced its next adventure. Ready for a new challenge, last week we swapped the splendour and glamour of the Royal Albert Hall for the muddy, wild fields of the Royal Highland Show at Ingliston in Edinburgh! Amongst the prize winning sheep, the pipe bands and the highland dancers, our full symphony orchestra battled the crowds to squeeze onto the small outdoor stage. Whilst the public had a pit stop to enjoy their picnics, we treated them to some wonderful music. We belted out our fabulous programme of Thunderbirds, The Devils Galop and music from Mary Poppins and Carmen.

It was so lovely to see passers by stopping to listen and to watch the children dancing on the grass. Unaccustomed to outdoor playing and the high winds which were brewing, we were wrestling with clothes pegs to keep the music on our stands whilst playing our very best for a fantastic crowd . There certainly seemed no better backdrop to our rendition of “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” and we loved every moment. After a great play, we headed back to our trusty bus. But, not without a cello selfie with a combine harvester and a visit to the Gin Tent first! What a fantastic day.
